At our international school in California, students take charge of their college journey from Grade 9. They meet individually with expert counselors at least four times a year, plus join group sessions that keep goals on track. Together, students and counselors define ambitions, map out a four-year academic plan, select courses, build a college list, prepare for interviews, and complete scholarship applications.

Anne Johnson is a dedicated academic and college counselor committed to guiding students in discovering their strengths and achieving their full potential. She earned her B.A. in History from Swarthmore College and her M.S. in Educational Counseling, along with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential, from the University of La Verne.
Before joining Fairmont Preparatory Academy in 2019, Mrs. Johnson served for over seven years as an Area Director for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove, where she developed youth programs promoting leadership and community engagement. She later worked as Head Counselor at HS2 Academy, guiding students through every stage of the academic and college planning process.
After serving at both the Fairmont Prep and Fairmont San Juan Capistrano campuses, Mrs. Johnson returned to the Prep in 2024. She is known for her student-centered approach and dedication to helping each learner build confidence, explore interests, and prepare for success beyond high school.
Outside of her professional work, Mrs. Johnson enjoys pickleball, rock climbing, traveling, and spending time with her family and dogs—and even has a talent for juggling.
Darryl Foy is a dedicated academic and college counselor with extensive experience in higher education and student development. He holds a B.A. in History from Whittier College and an M.A. in Education and Human Development from The George Washington University.
Before joining Fairmont Preparatory Academy, Mr. Foy spent 13 years as Associate Director of Admission at Whittier College, where he also served as Assistant Coach for the Men’s Soccer Team. He has been part of the Fairmont Prep community for the past eight years, guiding students through the college admissions process, academic planning, and AP/IB curriculum pathways, while also contributing as an Assistant Soccer Coach.
Mr. Foy believes in empowering students through curiosity, confidence, and critical thinking. He strives to create an environment where students feel seen, supported, and motivated to achieve their goals.
Originally from England, Mr. Foy is an avid soccer enthusiast and Manchester United supporter. He also enjoys running half-marathons, traveling with his family, and watching classic films from the 1980s and 1990s. His passion for education and mentorship continues to enrich the Fairmont Prep community.
Julie Weems is a highly experienced educational counselor with over twenty years of service at Fairmont Preparatory Academy, where she has been an integral member of the school’s counseling team. She holds a B.A. in Child Development and Family Studies from California State University, Long Beach, an M.S. in Educational Counseling from National University, and a Pupil Personnel Services Credential.
As Director of Counseling, Ms. Weems leads the department with a vision focused on ensuring that every student begins high school with a strong foundation for academic and personal success. Her commitment extends beyond academics—she is known for building meaningful relationships that empower students to grow with confidence both inside and outside the classroom.
Guided by the belief that every student possesses unique strengths and untapped potential, Ms. Weems emphasizes connection, encouragement, and individualized support in her approach. Recognized among the Top 10 Orange County School Employees in 2021, she continues to be a driving force behind Fairmont Preparatory Academy’s tradition of student-centered guidance and excellence.
Dr. Justin Voss is a dedicated counseling professional with over two decades of experience in education and college admissions. He holds a B.A. from Lewis & Clark College, an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Concordia University, and an Ed.D. in Interdisciplinary Leadership from Creighton University.
Dr. Voss has served as a school counselor at Fairmont Preparatory Academy for 14 years, guiding students through academic planning, personal growth, and the college admissions process. Prior to joining Fairmont Prep, he worked in college admissions at Whittier College and Pitzer College, where he gained valuable insight into higher education and student success.
Passionate about demystifying college admissions, Dr. Voss emphasizes social-emotional learning and collaborates with faculty to align counseling with emerging trends in higher education. His student-centered approach empowers learners to discover their authentic goals and voices.
Named a Top Educator by Parenting OC Magazine (2022), Dr. Voss is also an avid musician who plays multiple instruments and enjoys classic films—particularly White Christmas. His expertise and enthusiasm continue to enrich Fairmont Prep’s holistic approach to student development.
Mariam Ahmed is a graduate of University of California Riverside with a BS in Business Administration and earned her Masters’ in Educational and Clinical Counseling from Azusa Pacific University. She brings a remarkable blend of business experience and academic counseling expertise that makes her exceptionally qualified to work with our Advanced Business Program students. Her true passion lies in helping students discover and pursue the higher education paths that best align with their goals, interests, and values. Her counseling approach is to foster self-discovery, informed decision-making, and building a foundation for lifelong learning and success.
Ming Liao holds a B.A. in Psychology from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and brings a strong background in student and family support to her role at Fairmont Preparatory Academy. She began her career with the school as a Homestay Program Coordinator before transitioning to Program Coordinator, where she helps students and families navigate the differences between American education and their home country’s systems.
Fluent in Mandarin, Ms. Liao is passionate about fostering smooth transitions, cultural understanding, and a balanced student experience. She believes that growth can be challenging or enjoyable—it all depends on how it’s supported and defined.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her two rescue dogs, whose joyful energy reflects her caring and compassionate spirit.
Nancy Nguyen is an experienced educator and counselor with over a decade of service to the Fairmont Preparatory Academy community. She holds a B.A. in English from California State University, Fullerton, and a Single Subject Teaching Credential in English, cleared through the Orange County Department of Education.
Before transitioning to academic and college counseling in 2019, Mrs. Nguyen taught English for 10 years at Huntington Beach High School, San Clemente High School, and Fairmont Preparatory Academy, where she began in 2012. Drawing on her extensive teaching experience, she began her counseling career with a focus on student development and college readiness. Mrs. Nguyen’s unique combination of skills and passion for supporting students has earned her recognition as a top-10 finalist for Parenting OC's School Heroes and as one of the "Top Employees" in Orange County for 2026.
In addition to her counseling work, Mrs. Nguyen serves as NHS Adviser, Textbook Coordinator, Co-Advisor for ASB, and Adviser for the Vietnamese Culture Club and Friday Night Live Club. As a College Essay Editor and UC Application Reader, she guides students through the admissions process with insight and care, helping them discover their authentic voice and confidence in their goals.
Fluent in English and Vietnamese, Mrs. Nguyen is dedicated to promoting student-centered independence and academic success. Outside of school, she enjoys family adventures, photography, crafting, puzzles, and time with her rescue pets.
