Three members of Fairmont's faculty were named among the Top 25 teachers in O.C., and one of our staff members was named a Top 10 school employee. What makes these educators so exemplary? The essays submitted in their nominations provide insight into their dedication, innovation, and the profound impact they've had on their students' lives. Ryan Clark - Historic Anaheim Campus (5th Grade) Grade 5 teacher, Mr. Ryan Clark, is an important advocate, mentor, and role model for his students. He approaches each lesson with excitement and guides students through learning engagements that provoke critical and creative thinking, global-mindedness, and inquiry. Each lesson with Mr. Clark leaves his students inspired, and we know that with his guidance, the next generation is in good hands. Through the lens of transdisciplinary thinking and conceptual learning, Mr. Clark seeks opportunities for his students to engage in real-world, authentic learning. For example, Mr. Clark leads the Grade 5 Exhibition, an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme capstone project that challenges students to generate their own central ideas and lines of inquiry as they explore local problems of global significance. Through this experience, students develop their learning around topics of choice and engage with mentors and community experts to develop their understanding. Then, Mr. Clark challenges students to incorporate service as action before giving a final presentation. From homelessness and equal pay for equal work, to access to education, conflict, and climate change, our 5th graders are regularly impressed with how much they are about to accomplish. Mr. Clark brings energy and commitment to all aspects of his work at Fairmont Schools, Historic Anaheim Campus. From chaperoning our annual Catalina trip to stepping up to support a new teaching partner to offering feedback on the adoption of a new textbook, or even volunteering for the faculty dunk tank, he is always ready to support our school.
