Students aged 11 to 15 finalize their journey at our Middle School in Anaheim advancing to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP). Many continue their academic journey at Fairmont Preparatory Academy or pursue other high school pathways with success.

At Fairmont Historic Anaheim, students advance to a forward-thinking and inquiry-based IB Middle Years Programme. According to standardized testing, grades, and teacher recommendations, they enroll in either Standard or Honors-level courses.

Discovering the world through words

Students engage with novels, poetry, fiction and non-fiction, developing reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. They explore global contexts such as cultural expression, identity and fairness, and participate in interdisciplinary units, speech festivals, and collaborative projects, including the Writing Seminar.

Learners grow as confident communicators and creative thinkers, ready for advanced studies.

Mathematics

Developing critical thinking

Learners take Pre-Algebra Readiness, Pre-Algebra or Algebra in Grade 6, and progress through Geometry and Algebra two/Trigonometry in later years.

Students build conceptual understanding and mathematical skills step by step, exploring relationships, form and logic through inquiry and real-world applications. They connect abstract ideas to authentic situations and strengthen critical thinking, organization, and communication as they prepare for higher-level mathematics.

Learners move from outdoor science camp explorations to formal labs and real-world investigations through:

  • Earth Science in Grade 6
  • Life Science in Grade 7
  • Physical Science in Grade 8

Students tackle real-world problems, join interdisciplinary projects, and compete in science fairs, building critical thinking and problem-solving skills for advanced study.

Students choose to study Mandarin or Spanish. International Foundation Courses offer three levels of support for English language learners.

Students investigate human history and societies through inquiry-based learning, exploring:

  • Grade 6 - Ancient Civilizations, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome and China
  • Grade 7 -  Medieval and Early Modern Times, focusing on empires, cultural and intellectual transformations, the Renaissance and Reformation, and global exchanges
  • Grade 8 - US History through Reconstruction, tracing democratic foundations and the forces leading to the Civil War and its aftermath.

Physical Education

Fostering wellbeing

Students build fitness, teamwork, and resilience through volleyball, basketball, soccer, and design-a-game units. They develop healthy habits, reflect on progress, and lead community initiatives like the American Heart Association fundraiser.

Skill-based, written, and presented assessments help students grow in collaboration, self-management, and lifelong appreciation for movement.

Design

Innovating through imagination

Students engage in hands-on, concept-driven projects that emphasize systems, resources and innovation:

  • Grade 6 - learners create toys from recycled materials, remodel spaces and develop digital portfolios
  • Grade 7 – students design a cultural pop-up book for a first grade class and teach the design cycle by building a house of cards
  • Grade 8 - learners complete Map Without Words projects, design adaptive devices and address UN Global Goals.

In addition, students use tools such as cardboard building materials and Canva, create ePortfolios, and connect with core subjects through community and sustainability-focused projects.
