“Social Emotional Learning is a vital part of what we do at Fairmont because it develops the student all around and sets them up to be more successful academically.”
Fairmont’s commitment to safeguarding the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of their students is of primary importance. We provide a secure environment where students are safe to learn and grow academically, socially, and emotionally. ISP offers continued support, guidance, and training for Fairmont leadership and staff to create a robust structure for safeguarding our students.
Student & Family Counseling
Fairmont Schools is dedicated to helping students thrive not only academically, but personally. Teachers receive extensive training in social-emotional learning (SEL) so they can help attend to the overall wellbeing of their students.
Our on-staff Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist works in tandem with parents, teachers, campus directors, and academic counselors to help identify both academic and personal challenges that may prevent a student from achieving their personal best. Focus is also placed on fostering a culture where a growth mindset is nurtured and fully integrated into daily school life.
Mental Health Counselors
Fairmont offers comprehensive mental health counseling services to support students and their families, addressing emotional, behavioral, and relationship concerns. These services are designed to assist students in managing academic, social, and family-related stress. Our mental health counselors create a safe environment where students can openly discuss their issues and learn skills to manage stress, anxiety, depression, improve focus, and enhance social skills. The counselors engage with students individually, in group settings, and even observe them during classes or breaks to better understand and support their moods and behaviors. A systemic approach is employed by working collaboratively with students’ families and teachers. Additionally, our counselors conduct workshops covering various mental health topics such as anxiety, depression, and bullying, and offer educational workshops for parents to further support their children. These services aim to foster students’ overall growth and academic success and are available to all students at Fairmont.
As part of our commitment to developing social and emotional skills, and providing more options for balanced study, we offer a daily Flex period for middle school and high school students. During this Flex period, students may choose to work on homework, get one-on-one tutoring from teachers, meet with their counselors, or take a break to read or refresh.
Flex provides students with an opportunity to develop essential self-awareness and self-management skills, social awareness and relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. Students take full advantage of Flex to embrace their academic drive and foster self-growth, preparing for college on multiple levels.
