On August 3, the California Department of Public Health released its requirements for obtaining a waiver and our local OC Healthcare Agency followed suit. This means that Fairmont is one step closer to opening our doors to students! The waiver would allow students through 6th grade to join us on campus. Preschoolers are already cleared to join us when school starts on August 17. We remain hopeful that as Orange County’s COVID numbers improve, 7th-12th grade students would soon be cleared to return to campus.

Fairmont is prepared for the waiver process and has complied with and, in many cases, gone above and beyond requirements. Therefore, we have every confidence that our waiver application will be approved and we can proceed with our plan of offering both our remote and an on-campus learning program for fall 2020.

Fairmont was one of the first public or private schools in our region to publish a Reopening Plan. As always, we began with the end in mind–and our end goal is always to provide an educational experience for our students that is second to none. Our teachers and staff have been working around-the-clock to ensure we’ve left no stone unturned when it comes to preparing for the start of school.

Our innovative approach to remote learning brings the classroom into your homes–maintaining that vital connection between students and teachers. We developed a comprehensive health and safety plan that takes into account the latest guidance from the CDC, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the California Department of Public Health, the Orange County Health Care Agency and the Orange County Department of Education. And we continue to train our teachers to make sure they are prepared to start the school year strong.
