At Fairmont, we have a hunger to learn, and that definitely doesn’t stop just because we’re out on winter break. Finding educational opportunities outside of the classroom builds lifelong learners. This doesn’t have to be a long drawn out task, and it can even be exciting.

Aquarium of the Pacific – Who doesn’t love to visit our seafaring friends over in Long Beach. No matter how old you are, it’s a great way to spend an afternoon with the family or friends. Putting yourself in different scenery is already making you grow, so why not take the time to learn more about ocean life?

Griffith Park Observatory – Situated on the south-facing slope of Mount Hollywood, Griffith Park Observatory will ignite a passion for learning more about the cosmos in any aged person. You can even make a day of this by hiking some of the local trails in the afternoon (just be sure to bring water and snacks) and then visit Griffith Park Observatory in the evening.

Farmers Market – Eating locally has become more and more popular over the past few years, so why not take advantage of the many Farmers Markets that pop-up each weekend. It’s an excellent opportunity to teach your children about the benefits of a healthy diet in an environment that is more exciting than a grocery store.

Visit a record store – They may be few and far between, but they still exist. Show your teen that you do have good taste in music by introducing them to the wonderful world of vinyl.

Read for fun – It’s impossible to make a learning list without including reading. Grab your family, a cup of joe or hot cocoa, and snuggle up by the fireplace while you each read a book.

It’s so simple to find fun ways to learn in our daily lives. We hope you have a lovely holiday with your family.
