Father’s Day Ideas for Dad

Father’s Day 2017 is upon us, and if you haven’t started planning Dad’s big day, Fairmont is here to help! Whether your dad is outdoorsy, a homebody, a social butterfly, or a diehard sports fan, this list has something for him.

Beach Bonfire

Take Dad down to the beach for a laidback evening of toasting marshmallows and creating beloved family memories. Bring beach chairs and lots of warm blankets – you’ll need them once the sun goes down! Since beaches start to get crowded as summer begins, get there early to claim a pit and make a day of it. Beaches that allow bonfires in Southern California include Newport Beach, Corona Del Mar State Beach, Doheny, Bolsa Chica, and Huntington Beach.

Hike & Picnic

If Dad’s more of a nature guy, take him on an adventurous hike with the family! Trail options are practically endless. Follow the Top of the World trail in Laguna Beach for ocean breezes, take a day trip up to Big Bear for mountain views, or just go for a stroll in the local park if your little ones aren’t quite ready for hours of walking. Pack a lunch of dad’s favorite snacks and sandwiches to top off the day with a picnic!

Day in with the Game

Maybe Dad’s perfect day is simply staying in, avoiding the Father’s Day crowds, and watching the game. Join him on the couch (again with his favorite snacks) and help him cheer on his team! If he’s not into sports, but still wants to stay in, watch his favorite movies or TV shows. It’ll be even more fun if the movie picks are ones the kids haven’t seen. It’ll be like watching them for the first time all over again with his favorite people.

BBQ with the Family

Invite friends and family over for a Father’s Day barbecue! Heat up the grill, and spend the day celebrating with loved ones. While fun, this idea is highly discouraged if the dad in question is not a fan of hosting or cooking, but perfect for those dads who live for entertaining.

Car Show

There certainly won’t be a shortage of car shows to attend this Father’s Day weekend. If Dad loves classic cars, you are in luck! Pomona, Corona, Anaheim, Costa Mesa, and Brea will have car shows over the weekend. If you want to make a trip of it, a few hours north is Pismo Beach’s Annual Classic car show that will take over the small beach town all weekend.

Orange County Adventure

Need something more exciting for Dad? Take him whale watching, sports fishing, paintballing, or to an escape room. If Dad is a thrill seeker, trying something new will be the perfect way for him to spend the day with his family. With Father’s Day fast approaching, make reservations quick or plan to take Dad the weekend after for fewer crowds.

Movie and Dinner

Need a simpler idea? Have Dad choose a movie he wants to see and his favorite restaurant. Enjoy a nice evening out as a family. Just be sure to make reservations in advance if celebrating on Father’s Day.

Time for Golf

It seems like the cliché Father’s Day image, a dad golfing, but if that’s his passion give him some time off from dad duty to hit the green! Then, later, you can celebrate at home as a family with dinner or another group activity – maybe miniature golf!

Regardless of what you do, so long as your kids let Dad know he’s loved and the best, he’ll have a perfect day.
