Prep Medical Magnet Chair Honored by Stanford UniversityNovember 2009 |

Fairmont has long attributed the success of its educational program to
the exceptional knowledge and commitment of teachers and
administrators. This fall, Stanford University recognized a special
member of the Preparatory Academy faculty who has given many young
doctors and biological researchers their start. Class of 2009 standout, Melissa Ada, nominated Dr. Regina Katz for Stanford’s Teacher Tribute Initiative and Katz was subsequently recognized for her dedication by Stanford President John L. Hennessy. Katz chairs Fairmont Prep’s Medical Magnet program. All members of Stanford’s incoming class were given the opportunity to acknowledge a former teacher or mentor who played a significant role in their intellectual, academic, social or personal development. Former Medical Magnet student and Stanford freshman, Ada, honored Katz by offering following tribute: “Dr. Regina Katz is passionate about life and teaching. By fully committing to her students, she taught me to place others before myself. Her deep knowledge and enthusiasm for biology reinforced my plan to major in biology and become a doctor. She sparked my interest in research outside the classroom. I also shared Dr. Katz’s love for life, from cooking to her concern for the environment. Truly, I feel Dr. Katz has played an influential role in my life, and I deeply thank her for that.” Katz received a certificate from Stanford University that reads, “Your dedication to the field of education has contributed to the future of your students, Stanford University, and your community.” “Dr. Katz is one of those teachers who changes lives,” said Preparatory Academy Headmaster Robert Mendoza. “She is a great teacher, but I think it’s her genuine love for her students and her fervent desire to see them excel that makes her so unforgettable. We feel very honored to have her as a member of our faculty.” |
