Fairmont Joins in National Week of the Young Child Celebration

April 2009

Anaheim, Calif., April 20 — Fairmont kicked off Week of the Young Child (April 19-24) celebrations today at the Anaheim Hills, Edgewood, Citron and Mable campuses.  Each campus has planned special activities and events throughout the week to bring awareness to the importance of early childhood education, highlight literacy and involve the Fairmont community in our educational process.  Week of the Young Child, sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), is celebrated across the country by hundreds of local organizations working to improve opportunities for young children.

"Early learning experiences are crucial to the growth and development of young children," said Fairmont CEO Rob Chandler. "Week of the Young Child provides opportunities for all of us in the Fairmont community to recognize the importance our youngest members and to encourage and support the educators who are hard at work each day helping children grow mentally, physically, socially and emotionally."

On Saturday, April 18, Fairmont representatives joined in a community celebration at the city of Irvine’s "Day in the Park" with an informational booth featuring balloons, face-painting and a crafts project.  Once school resumed from spring break on Monday, the campuses were off and running with dozens of fun presentations, themed-days and activities including a messy Mud Day at Anaheim Hills, a Fairy Tale Character Dress Up Day at Citron, a Mini-Olympics at Edgewood and special book readings at the Mable campus.

In addition, on Wednesday, April 22, early childhood specialist Debora Martin spoke to parents on "The Importance of Play" during our final Director’s Series of the year.  Dave Scahill from Lakeshore Learning also presented toys and other products designed to promote "open-ended play".
