Fairmont International Education Program Opens 45 Seats for Spring Semester

November 2009

Fairmont Private Schools, Orange County’s premier private school, announced today that it would accept 45 additional students into its International Education Program in time for the spring semester starting February 2, 2010.  Enrollment is open to qualified junior high and high school students and features a combination of academic courses, activities and electives, cultural immersion and Fairmont’s proprietary method of teaching English as a Primary Language (EPL).

“In spite of continuing challenges with the global economy, we are seeing demand from students across the world who are interested in strengthening their English language skills in preparation for high school and college,” says Fairmont CEO Robertson Chandler.  “Fairmont continues to have one of the most unique language programs in the country. For students looking to gain acceptance to some of the best colleges and universities in the US, Fairmont provides an unparalleled opportunity.”

Founded in 1953, Fairmont has a reputation of academic excellence and top college acceptance which has attracted students from all over the world.  Today, students from over 15 countries matriculate at one of Fairmont International Education Program’s four campuses, with a concentration of students from Pacific Rim countries: Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan and China.

Setting Fairmont International Education Program’s curriculum apart from other ESL programs throughout the U.S., is an instructional methodology that teaches English as though it were a student’s primary language.  Fairmont’s EPL program concentrates on a higher cognitive level of language learning, emphasizing the understanding of literature, analytical writing and critical thinking.  The purpose of such thorough English instruction—to prepare students for success in a college preparatory high school, and ultimately, to help them succeed in gaining acceptance to a top US college or university.

A streamlined application process allows qualified students to apply directly to Fairmont Preparatory Academy, Fairmont Private Schools’ college preparatory high school.  Fairmont Prep offers international students an American high school experience, including clubs, social events, athletics and the arts together with rigorous academic programs.

Over the years, Fairmont International Education Program’s method has been highly successful, producing graduates who go on to selective colleges and universities such as
Boston University, Carnegie Mellon University, Brandeis University and Pennsylvania State University as well as top California schools including University of California, Los Angeles, University of California, Berkeley and University of Southern California.

In addition to intensive language instruction, academic and elective courses and cultural immersion, students are encouraged to participate in Fairmont’s homestay program.  Fairmont carefully screens and selects families for its homestay program who provide international students with an inviting, comfortable and supportive home environment during their studies in the U.S.

In order to be considered for enrollment in Fairmont’s spring semester, students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.  Fairmont’s admission office will work with students, agents and families to issue I-20s and assist in a smooth transition from the student’s home country to Fairmont International Education Program.  Spring semester tuition is priced at $11,950 and optional homestay participation is $1,000 per month.
