Fairmont Private Schools’ Dual-Language Immersion Program combines the best of dual-language education practices with Fairmont’s advanced academic standards in order to provide students with advanced curriculum that develops their language fluencies in both Mandarin and English.
This program places both native English speakers and native Mandarin speakers in the classroom together, which optimizes language acquisition in both languages, as students will be able to learn from their peers.
During the day, students will spend 50 percent of the time learning in English instruction and the other 50 percent in Mandarin.
Students will acquire high levels of oral and written proficiency in both Mandarin/simplified Chinese and English and develop positive attitudes toward other languages and demonstrate their abilities to appreciate the traditions and values of various other cultures.
We’re currently enrolling kindergartners for the 2018–2019 school year. Enrollment is limited. Don’t miss out on this exciting new program!

What is the Dual-Language Immersion Program?
What advantages does the program offer?
The program provides the following benefits for participating students:
- Bilingualism and biliteracy: Students develop high levels of oral and written proficiency in both Mandarin/simplified Chinese and English.
- Additive bilingualism: Fairmont commits to support students in acquiring a new language and building strong English skills.
- Academic excellence: Students achieve academic excellence in all subject areas, aligning with Fairmont’s advanced curriculum standards (which meet or exceed state standards).
- Multicultural understanding: Students develop positive attitudes toward other languages and cultures and demonstrate their abilities to appreciate the traditions and values of various other cultures.
What students will participate in the program?
The Dual-Language Immersion Program serves both English and Mandarin speaking students and is open to students of various backgrounds and abilities. It will begin with kindergarten students, and families are strongly encouraged to commit to keep their children in the program for at least six years (kindergarten through 5th grade).
How much of the instruction will be in English, and how much will be in Mandarin?
The language allocation model is 50/50, which means that 50 percent of the day is spent in English instruction, and 50 percent is spent in Mandarin. The composition of each classroom will include both native English speakers and native Mandarin speakers. This optimizes language acquisition in both languages, as students will be able to learn from their peers.
Are there additional fees for this program?
Yes, because of the added curriculum and instruction, the Dual-Language Immersion Program will require an additional $2,000 on top of standard tuition costs.
