Over Presidents’ Day weekend, two Fairmont junior high debaters traveled to the University of California Invitational at U.C. Berkeley, the largest speech and debate tournament in the western United States. Historic Anaheim students Jennifer Cresap and Jacob Gibbs competed in the junior varsity division of the Public Forum Debate against 118 teams hailing from the United States and China. Matched with high school competitors, Cresap and Gibbs finished the preliminary rounds with a record of four wins and two losses, and advanced to the elimination rounds as the 21st overall seed in the tournament. They were eliminated in the double-octafinal round, earning 17th place overall. Gibbs was named 11th best speaker out of nearly 240 competitors.
